Graduation from City Vision University is not a guarantee of employment with any ministry or other organization.
City Vision University does not have a job placement service for its graduates. However, we do offer career advising to students as described in the “Career Advising” section of this page.
We have multiple touchpoints within our academic programs that provide opportunities for career advising. These include:
Career Advising in Course Assignments
- During our New Student Orientation, students are asked to create a Degree Plan and Career Goals related to their education. Students then have a live Zoom meeting with our Director of Student Services to provide academic and career advising as desired by the student.
- Nearly all of our programs require a course called Vocation, Calling and Purpose of Work. We suggest students take this early in their program. This course is particularly focused on helping students discern their future career path based on their gifts and talents. The final project for the course is to develop a Life Plan which encompasses both personal and career goals. The faculty who teach this course provide one-to-one career advising and mentoring to all students in the course through their responses in the discussion forums and to student assignments.
- Most of our undergraduate programs require either ADC101: Introduction to Christian Addiction Counseling or ORG101: Introduction to Nonprofit & Ministry Management. The final project in this course is to develop a career plan. Faculty then provide feedback through responses to the assignment and related discussion and Zoom meetings. Each of these courses have assignments where students work on their career plan and steps toward certification, if applicable, so that faculty can provide feedback through assignments, discussion forums and Zoom sessions.
- Students desiring assistance with their job search may also take our ORG201 Job & Internship Search Strategies which gives them practical experience in identifying job and internship opportunities and contacting potential employers.
- For Addiction Counseling students, multiple courses provide advising opportunities for both career and certification. This includes ADC406: Addiction Counseling Certification Preparation, ADC306: Recovery Coaching & Peer Support Specialist, ADC420/ADC550: Addiction Counseling Practicum and ADC540: Advanced Addiction Counseling Certification Preparation.
Staff & Faculty Career Advising Outside of Coursework
In addition to the advising built into our curriculum designed above, we provide the following touchpoints for career advising:
- During the admissions process with our Director of Admissions
- Students may set up advising and degree planning Zoom meetings with our Director of Student Services, Program Directors or Academic Dean at any point in their program.
- Faculty often will set up one-to-one meetings with students to provide additional advising.
Student Services can help with academic advising, including degree planning. Students in need of assistance may speak with a City Vision University staff member by calling by calling (816) 708-0794, via e-mail at support@cityvision.edu, or via the chat link on the website. Staff are available 9:00am – 5:00pm Central Time Monday to Friday.
Ultimately, students’ own interests, abilities and motivation will determine their level of success at City Vision University, but we can help you reach your goals.
