Because we are a relational ministry in addition to being a university, our goal is to be have an active relationship with all organizational partners. Because of this, for an organization to remain an active Scholarship Partner or Affiliate Partner, we need to meet with the leadership of the organization at least once a year.

Become a scholarship partner to organizations that send two or more students in a year & meet Scholarship partnership expectations (after scholarship, tuition is $550/course undergrad or grad)

For students from partners sending two or more students and receiving the maximum Pell grant:

                                               1 Course          2 Courses
Maximum Pell Grant:            $924               $1,849
City Vision Scholarship:      +$250               +$500
Tuition:                                  -$800             -$1,600
Technology Fee                     –  $50              –    $50
Refund Paid to Student:        $324                  $699

City Vision is only able to provide our $250/course partner scholarship to students because of the efforts partners make in supporting the partnership. All scholarship partners must meet the following expectations to remain active partners and receive partner scholarship benefits. Partner organizations agree to:

  1. Have at least two paying students in a year. If they do not, students will no longer receive the partner scholarship, but may still receive other scholarships if eligible. A student from the partner will have a 2 term grace period to continue receiving the scholarship if the organization is no longer sending multiple students.
  2. Have at least one partnership meeting per year (preferably two) with City Vision University involving the executive leadership of the organization.
  3. Appoint a partner liaison to serve as the primary contact for the CVU partnership. It is recommended that organizations appoint one contact for staff and one contact for clients (Wounded Healers).
  4. Actively promote City Vision to staff and clients as appropriate. This could include the following:
    • Inviting City Vision to present briefly at an all-staff meeting or leadership team meeting
    • Sending an email template to your staff email list
    • Requesting flyers to be sent to you from City Vision and distributing them to staff and/or clients.
    • Requesting a poster to be sent to you from City Vision
    • Including City Vision in HR processes such as a recommended option in professional development plan
    • Including City Vision as a preferred partner in tuition reimbursement programs
    • Developing a credit recognition partnership where staff or clients get credit for high-quality training you are implementing in your organization
    • Developing a cohort program where groups of staff or clients take courses together and have on-site discussions about their learning experiences

Basis for Partnership Expectations

CVU’s tuition is about ⅓ or ½ of most other online Christian schools, so we are only able to make this scholarship financially sustainable if the effort of partners significantly reduces our marketing cost. Ultimately, the more partners promote City Vision and the more students they provide, the more that reduces our marketing costs. This allows us to fulfill our goal of providing high-quality, radically affordable online education to partners.

Strategic partners are ministries with 5+ students in a year that meet Strategic Partner expectations. Includes all benefits of Scholarship Partners and the following additional benefits (as desired).

  1. Free credit evaluation to award college credit for structured ministry training for clients and staff
  2. Free consulting by CVU experts to improve design of client and staff training programs
  3. Ability to co-design cohort programs tightly integrated with CVU for clients and/or staff aligned with your ministry’s strategic goals
  4. Invitation to CVU’s Innovative Communities of Practice in: HR, Development, Programs, Counseling, Food Services & Thrift

Ministries that Strategic Partners agree to:

  1. Have at least five paying students in a year. If they do not, will move t. A student from the partner will have a 2 term grace period to continue receiving the scholarship if the organization is no longer sending multiple students.
  2. Annually invite CVU to:
    • Meet with your leadership team. Our major goal with strategic partners is to support your strategic initiatives. The goal of this meeting is to better understand how we can do that. We also encourage our partners to share their strategic plan with CVU so we can better understand how to support you. You can determine the amount of time and who to include for this meeting.
    • Present CVU’s offerings to staff to strengthen the partnership. We ask to do this because making the decision to attend a university requires a significant amount of trust. We have learned that this trust is best achieved through video meetings. We often say, “If a picture is worth a thousand words, a Zoom meeting is worth a thousand emails.” For some ministry partners this might be at a regular all staff meeting or for others this might be multiple presentations to groups of staff. This typically can range from 15-30 minute determined by the partner and is followed by an email you can forward to staff with details about CVU.
    • Present our Wounded Healers Workshop for each client graduation cohort. Typically this involves inviting CVU’s Wounded Healers Program Director as a video “guest speaker” as a part of your standard curriculum for clients in the last stage of your program before graduation. Our Wounded Healers Director presents what holistic Christian recovery looks like in the long term both based on the Wounded Healers model and his own experience as a program graduate. If preferred, we can just present CVU’s Wounded Healers program in as short as 15 minutes.
  3. Working with CVU to Spread Your Ministry’s Best Practices. This could include appointing staff to serve on CVU’s Innovative Communities of Practice and potentially contribute documents & templates to our toolkits in these areas

Our faculty and staff providing this free consulting often bill at $100 to $300 per hour. We provide this service for free to support your ministry and our partnership.

Strategic Partner Profile: St. Matthew's House

St. Matthew’s House is an incredibly innovative $33 million dollar rescue mission serving the poor, homeless and addicted in Naples, FL. Each year, they provide over 513,000 meals and housing to over 1,600 individuals. Of those, 120 are placed in jobs, and 385 are placed in housing. The leadership of St. Matthew’s realized a key strategy to remain effective and innovative is to invest heavily in the education and training of their staff. In the past 5 years, St. Matthew’s has had over 40 of their staff and others enroll in City Vision and one of their staff has become faculty.

As a strategic partner, City Vision provides a scholarship so tuition is only $550/course. Also, many of their staff have outstanding senior management experience, enabling them to accelerate their degree by getting prior learning credit for their past experience. As our partner, St. Matthew’s can better fulfill their vision of transforming thousands of lives and becoming a national model of best practices for other organizations to replicate.

“City Vision University provides a quality, practical and affordable education that equips our staff to better serve people experiencing hunger, homelessness and addiction. Often our people that earn their degrees at City Vision have been homeless or addicted and now are valued employees that can help transform other people’s lives through their education.” – Steve Brooder, CEO, St. Matthew’s House

SRM logo onblack

Springs Rescue Mission is a rapidly growing innovative $16.7 million dollar rescue mission serving the poor, homeless and addicted in Colorado Springs. In 2021, they provided over 186,651 meals and housing to 2,596 individuals. Of those, 30% are in addiction recovery programs and 51% are enrolled in job training programs.

Management and Leadership Cohort

The goal of this group is to equip emerging leaders to become managers through the following sequence of 5 courses:

Case Management Cohort

The goal of this group is to equip guest services staff to become case managers through the following sequence of 5 courses:

How it works & benefits

Currently, 11 Springs Rescue Mission staff take one of the above courses each term as a cohort in sequence. A part of their work schedule involves having discussion groups on the course material (similar to a book club). Students work collaboratively on projects together, but still have to submit their own work. As a strategic partner, City Vision provides a 33% scholarship so tuition is only $5,000/year. For staff that have outstanding senior management experience, City Vision enables them to accelerate their degree by getting prior learning credit for their past experience. As our partner, Springs Rescue Mission can better fulfill their vision of transforming thousands of lives and becoming a national model of innovation for other organizations to replicate.

“City Vision is the perfect partner for Springs Rescue Mission in higher education. The courses are specific to the work being accomplished at the mission. Because staff learn the same terminology and information at City Vision, they can use that to strengthen the programming and processes at the mission.”
– Jeff Cook, Chief Programs Officer, Springs Rescue Mission
